Announcing the formation of the Stay Positive Vancouver Initiative…
There are many definitions that can apply to the word ‘positive’. Here’s a couple:
- “Confident”, as in “a positive attitude…”
- “Marked by the presence of distinctive qualities or attributes…”
This wonderful city of Vancouver that we live in certainly possesses “distinctive qualities and attributes” and it has every reason to be “confident”! After all, this is the best place in the world to live and we’re hosting our world in just over a year’s time. So what’s with all the negativity out there?
Allow us to introduce ourselves. We’re the Stay Positive Vancouver Committee and we’re here to change your attitude (if it needs changing…) Stay Positive Vancouver was formed by a group of local businesspeople to combat the negativity that seems to have taken hold out there. It was also created to underscore how lucky we all are to live in this great city that just about a year from now will be hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Vancouverites will be among a very select group of people anywhere in the world at any time that ever gets to witness such a happening first-hand. And it will be tremendous. So let’s acknowledge the fact that we have much more to be positive about than negative.
Stay Positive Vancouver will engage the community in various ways so that the effect of our efforts will be felt by everyone. We need you to act and support the initiative. We will create excitement by generating exposure through the traditional media (radio, TV, newspapers etc.). We will also develop exposure via a very powerful internet presence – a website, Facebook, Twitter, on blogs etc. – and direct face-to-face human interaction (…remember that?? It’s called networking and it’s still the best way to do business). But we will need help with this. If you’re in, let us know.
Our launch event is taking place at Bella Candela Restaurant (www.bellacandela.com) at 109 W. Esplanade in North Vancouver on Wednesday, January 28th at 7:00 AM under the auspices of the North Shore Business Success Group (www.nsbsg.com). Cost for this event is a very affordable $15.00 and includes a full breakfast. Please RSVP to Neil Hamilton below. Get on board with Stay Positive Vancouver! Do something! Do anything! Celebrate our city and what we have – and Stay Positive, Vancouver!

President´s Message
Dear Fellow NSBSG members,
I can´t believe how fast 2008 is turning into 2009!!
Since time seems to be passing so much faster, that makes it even more incumbent upon us to live each day to its absolute maximum. This next year will be a challenging one (more on that below...). However giving to each other in the form of our own unique professional expertise, business leads and referrals and simple support are just some of the ways we can help to ensure that we, along with the people we are connected to, make it through 2009 successfully and prepare for what will be an absolutely fabulous 2010 here in Vancouver.
Rob Arthurs of the 2010 Commerce Centre keeps telling me (and I think he´s right...) that we don´t yet have a clue what´s going to hit us as the world descends on our city a little over a year from now. But I can tell you one thing - it´s going to be fun and a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Investing in Real Estate Takes Homework
We are clearly entering volatile times where investing is concerned.
Significant drops in the stock market, foreclosures and bank failings in the U.S. have raised uncertainty in the minds of consumers and investors.
Earle Cherneski of Dollar Road Investments gave a pragmatic overview of investing into rental properties. Less than 5% of Canadians invest in Real Estate largely due to a high buy in rate, the issues related to being a landlord, and the attractive risk management associated with mutual funds.
